FAQ

To help you become more acquainted with Revelation Massage, we’ve compiled some Frequently Asked Questions to help you learn more about how we work and how therapeutic massage can improve your quality of life.

Q: Do I offer my massage therapist a tip?
A:

Yes, tipping your therapist is appreciated at the standard 15-18% service industry rate.

Q: Are there any conditions that would make receiving massage therapy ill advised?
A:

Yes, your therapist will begin your session by asking you health related questions to ensure that the treatments that you will be receiving are appropriate for you and will modify treatment accordingly. There are some conditions that will require medical approval prior to receiving massage therapy. If you have any questions about your specific concerns please feel free to contact us.

Q: Will the massage therapy session hurt?
A:

It should absolutely not be painful. Experiencing pain causes a muscle to contract and become shorter. The goal of massage therapy is to increase the length of the muscles so pain should not be part of the equation. You and your therapist will establish the appropriate amount of pressure that will create a therapeutic effect while avoiding the protective reflex associated with pain. There may be moments that are appropriately sensation-full…but not painful.

Q: Why would someone receive a massage therapy session?
A:

As massage therapy is increasing in popularity with the public and the health care community, there are an ever-expanding number of reasons to receive massage therapy and an ever-growing amount of research being done as well. For instance massage therapy has been proven to be a great accompaniment to certain types of cancer treatment, for supporting women through pregnancy, for decreasing headaches, for increasing comfort and flexibility, for supporting the focus and productivity of employees at work, for decreasing injury at work, in athletic performance and at play. Massage can even decrease the symptoms of depression (especially applicable during long winters) and increase the enjoyment of life. Contact us to ask if massage therapy is right for you.

Q: How often should I receive a massage?
A:

That depends on what your wellness goals for treatment are. Although massage therapy is of great benefit to all individuals to receive as often as they desire to, not everyone’s goals are the same. You will discuss with your therapist the best treatment frequency for you at the time of service. For more frequent visits clients may want to consider joining as a Revelation Massage Member for access to preferred member pricing.

Q: Will I have to get undressed?
A:

Your massage therapist will discuss your wellness goals with you before your session begins and together you will assess what treatments will best suit your needs. There are some treatments such as Polarity Therapy and Reflexology that a client can remain fully clothed for. Chair massage is another fully clothed treatment. For all other modalities the client disrobes to their comfort level and is always under a sheet and blanket. The therapist only uncovers the area of the body that is being worked on with the utmost attention to professionalism and modesty. Parts of the body that may be worked on are head, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, feet, legs, and back

Q: What kind of qualifications do massage therapists have?
A:

Massage therapists have extensive hands-on training that includes proficiencies in numerous hands on modalities, professional boundaries and ethics as well as anatomy and physiology. Massage therapists must graduate from an accredited school and maintain a professional state license as a bare minimum. Revelation Massage therapists receive continual advanced learning to ensure that they are able to customize your treatment most effectively for you.
